If youre driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, youre ready for JPL.Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.We are seeking motivated and analytical individuals that can work well, both independently and in a team environment, to serve as Summer Undergraduate Students (SUM) in both the Financial Planning and Analysis Group (FPA), and Institutional Accounting Section, operating under the Controller and Financial Planning Office.ResponsibilitiesAs a Finance or Accounting Summer Intern, you will be partnered/mentored by other staff members, and will report to the Group Supervisor.Finance Tasks include:

  • Working on day-to-day assignments under direct supervision; receiving detailed instructions on new assignments;
  • Assist in burden budget analysis/business base forecasting and related ad-hoc projects;
  • Participate in providing data analysis, data visualization and interpretation, for use in planning and decision-making;
  • Assist in the development and administration of burden budgets for specific organizations;
  • Participate in applying moderately complex internal controls and procedures;
  • Research data in support of burden budget development and review processes;
  • Attend meetings to discuss institutional financial issues and develop/monitor action plans;
  • Assist in the drafting of formal reports and presentations of financial results to describe the institutional financial status;
  • Prepare, update and file financial reporting and analysis work-paper folders;
  • Assist in updating and organizing the internal databases; and
  • Special Assignments/Project Participation; Group/Section Staff Meeting Participation - Some of which include guest speakers and training activities; Meet and Greets with other CFPO student summer hires, Academic Part-Time employees and other Early Career Hires; and job responsibility overviews with key CFPO employees and Financial Planning & Analysis (FPA) stakeholders.Accounting Tasks include:
    • Working on day-to-day assignments under direct supervision; receiving detailed instructions on new assignments in areas of Invoice Management, Payroll, Cost Accounting and Financial Accounting.
    • Assignments will relate to a range of accounting activities such as invoice payments, inventory & property reporting, interface table and missing timecard processes, cost transfers, account reconciliations, financial statements analysis, Letter of Credit draws, cash receipts, bank reconciliations, and other accounting tasks.Qualifications
      • Must be currently enrolled at least half-time at an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Management/Administration, Data Science or related discipline;
      • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
      • Must be able to work full-time during the summer for an 8-12 week assignment;
      • Completed coursework with exposure to standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in Finance, Data Analytics, Accounting or Mathematics;
      • Knowledge and experience with MS Office; and
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.A passion or strong desire to explore the field of finance, data analytics, accounting, or business operations;
      • Demonstrated leadership skills including strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities;
      • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills;
      • Aptitude to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams;
      • Proficient with general purpose computer applications; and
