Every position at ArtCenter plays an important part in carrying out the values, goals, strategic vision, and mission of the College. -This includes diversity, equity, inclusion, access, belonging and culture. Reporting to the Chair, Spatial Experience Design Director directs the day-to-day function of the department by interfacing with faculty, students, other departments, and industry. The incumbent is the frontline interface for students, faculty, and guests. The role takes the lead in implementing improved operational methods and in producing special events and will oversee three programs: Spatial Experience Design Undergraduate, Graduate Spatial Experience Design and Graduate Furniture, Lighting and Fixtures Design. Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of professional experience and at least 4 years in managing a department, including budgeting, project management and supervisory responsibilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in film, business administration, education, design or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain a good working relationship with students, colleagues, various departments, and guests
  • Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines; ability to work effectively both independently and within groups
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and students
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced office and multiple projects with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Keynote, Photoshop and the ability to learn new software as needed
  • Understanding and knowledge of social media platforms and tools
  • Ability to handle all information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • A commitment to DEIAB and culture, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communitiesPreferred Qualifications
    • A Master's degree in art or related studies from an accredited college or university

    • Bi-lingualEssential FunctionsDepartment Operations - 60%
      • Provide general departmental leadership and oversight, overseeing the department budget, strategic planning, logistics, events, administrative support to implement operations
      • Oversee recruitment, hiring, orientation, training and supervision of department faculty, staff and contractors; oversee performance evaluation process, ensuring consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures; apply performance management skills for improved performance, make recommendations in discipline and terminations, as required
      • Serve as the main link between the Department Chair, Faculty Advisors and faculty at large in Spatial Design; answer questions/concerns of students and faculty
      • Schedule and attend all faculty meetings and record proceedings for assessment
      • Coordinate and collaborate with admissions on recruitment and promotional activities; work with the Chair to assist with all print and web promotional materials and manage departmental promotional events, including budget, facilities, catering, speakers and event promotion; oversee the department website to keep information current and accurate
      • Attend meetings and manage department on behalf of the Chair as needed
      • Write and distribute correspondence with faculty and students
      • Coordinate and collect faculty syllabi, course reviews and curriculum for department assessment each term
      • Adhere to and support all College policies and fosters promotes safety and security policies with the department
      • Coordinate, organize, train and track the department's student workers; authorize and submit copies of Student Employment Authorization Forms to Human Resources; maintain spreadsheet -
      • Manage all correspondence and paperwork for guest speakers in state, out of state and international payments, keeping information current uploaded in department shared server; manage communication regarding payment working with Human Resources (HR) to process guests into payroll system or payment request
      • Maintain and keep current the calendar for Chair and department including scheduling meetings, time away from the office and special events
      • Plan, coordinate, and develop efficient business practices, including procedures to ensure compliance and cooperation with all other internal departments; problem solving; project planning; and management
      • Provide support and logistics for special projects and events such as exhibitions and promotional activities, department events, Open House, Grad Show, recruitment events and provide project documentation, publications etc.
      • Coordinate and track department purchasing and expenses, reconcile corporate card expensive reports, process purchase orders reimbursements and check requisitions, ensure invoices are approved for payment
      • Manage department social media website and graduation-related websites
      • Coordinate internal and external events working with Alumni and other special guests for meetings, events, screenings, potential job openings for current students, and other general inquiriesEducational Support - 35%
        • Coordinate and attend department student reviews, portfolio reviews, scholarship reviews and reviews for entering candidates
        • Work with core faculty and chairs to secure funding partners and Design Network advisors, including grant writing, and assisting faculty and others in writing of grants and research proposals
        • Work with appropriate departments to organize and implement all aspects of studio abroad educational programs
        • Manage all exhibitions and gallery shows, on and off campus, including planning, shipping and communication with student, faculty and chair on exhibition strategies, space distribution, signage and production
        • Oversee student's use of technical equipment and facilities; assist faculty with room reservations/equipment needs for classes
        • Provide comprehensive academic advising to graduate students, managing advisement and scheduling for students, processing informal degree audits
        • Oversee student involvement with Grad Show and recruitment event activities, including interview coaching and website feedback
        • Supervise and develop course, faculty, and room scheduling based on enrollment per term; maintain class size
        • Approve curriculum changes for students by completing the waive/sub forms, registration exception forms, and independent study forms
        • Maintain and manage course descriptions and syllabi; identify and address curricular developments and changes as necessary
        • Collaborate with Enrollment Services, Center of Student Services, Admissions, etc. to ensure implementation and management of the film curriculumNon-Essential Duties- 5%
