Hours Worked: Varies -/ Week, ExemptSalary Range: -65,000- 75,000/yr DOEJOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the GL Accountant is responsible for account reconciliation, cost allocation, and monthly general ledger close. The GL Accountant prepares, maintains, and reviews accounts in accordance with GAAP for not-for-profit organizations. The GL Accountant assists in the development of improved tools, processes, and approaches to maximize efficiency and accuracy while maintaining effective internal control.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger reconciliations for month-end closing; meet daily deadlines to ensure a timely close
  • Prepare supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule; analyze financial data and trends
  • Review transaction reports and discuss with accounting and finance teams
  • Research and resolve a variety of internal and external inquiries concerning account status and communicate the resolution of issues to appropriate persons
  • Assist with annual financial audit as well as government and private monitoring; prepare schedules and organize documentation as necessary
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, vendors, board members, donors, clients, and others
  • Contribute to the development of the Accounting department that reflects best practices as well as continuous learning and improvement
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested by the Senior Accountant
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Good knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research to help resolve accounting questions
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Gmail
    • Proficient with office communication equipment and machines
    • Experience using accounting software and/or other relational databases is desirable QuickBooks and ADP experience a plus
    • The ability to work both independently and within a supportive, team environment
    • The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral formats, and have the capacity to interact professionally with employees, vendors, and management from all walks of life
    • Good organizational, documentation, and time management skills
    • Consistently meets all deadlines
    • Excellent mathematical skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Open to change and willing to learn new skills
    • Ability to follow up on pending issues
    • A strong work ethicEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
      • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in accounting or related field preferred
      • 3+ years of experience in general accounting (General Ledger, Journal Entries)
      • Excellent organization, prioritization, oral and written communication skills
      • Desirable, but not required, experience in homeless services, non-profits, or government accounting or other industry, such as construction, with complex cost allocation.
      • CPA or CPA-track is a plus
      • Strong Excel skills (Pivot, VLookup, Index/Match, etc.)PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
        • Ability to work remotely or in a temperature controlled environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

        • Transcribe, enter, and post data
        • High level of concentration and attention to detail for extended periods of time
        • Requires use of a computer keyboard for long periods of time
