Job Description Job Description Job Summary: The Financial Aid
Advisor at the NewSchool of Architecture & Design is responsible
for guiding students and their families through the financial aid
process while also serving as one of the designated College
Certifying Official for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits. This role
involves evaluating financial aid applications, certifying VA
benefits, determining eligibility, and ensuring compliance with
federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Advisor will
provide personalized financial counseling, assist with financial
aid and veteran benefits forms, and participate in outreach
activities to promote financial literacy and awareness of veterans'
resources among students. Key Responsibilities: Student Advising:
Provide individualized counseling to students and parents regarding
financial aid options, application procedures, and eligibility
requirements. Assist in completing the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) and other necessary documentation. Application
Evaluation: Review and assess financial aid applications to
determine student eligibility for various aid programs, including
federal, state, and institutional funds. Ensure accurate and timely
processing of awards. Compliance and Reporting: Maintain up-to-date
knowledge of financial aid regulations and ensure all processes
comply with federal, state, and institutional policies. Assist in
preparing required reports and documentation. Financial Literacy
Education: Conduct workshops and presentations to educate students
on financial literacy, budgeting, and responsible borrowing.
Develop and distribute informational materials to enhance
understanding of financial aid processes. Interdepartmental
Collaboration: Work closely with admissions, registrar, and other
relevant departments to coordinate disseminating financial aid
information and ensure seamless student support. Record
Maintenance: Maintain accurate and confidential student financial
aid records. Utilize management of financial assistance systems to
track application statuses, awards, and disbursements. Professional
Development: Stay informed about changes in financial aid
regulations and best practices through continuous professional
development. Participate in training sessions, workshops, and
conferences as required. Certify student enrollment and benefits
eligibility for VA educational benefits, including post-9/11 GI
Bill®, Montgomery GI Bill®, and other VA programs. Provide guidance
to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families on
VA benefits and university policies. Ensure compliance with VA
regulations and maintain accurate records for audits and reporting.
Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business
administration, education, or a related field is required. A
master’s degree is preferred. Experience: At least one year of
experience in financial aid counseling is required. Familiarity
with federal and state financial aid regulations is essential.
Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the
ability to explain complex financial information clearly. Excellent
organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in
financial aid management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a
team-oriented environment. Commitment to maintaining
confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
