Perspecta has an immediate need for a Photonics Components Engineer
in Pasadena , CA. Support multiple space and science mission
engineering programs for our customer. Role includes support of
mission engineering programs and teams in various stages of
prototyping to flight-ready hardware. Responsible for reviewing all
Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical Parts (EEE) parts for
reliability related performance and advises the projects on optical
component & part selection; conducts scientific experiments or
theoretical analysis to determine the physical behavior of photonic
parts in a space-like radiation environment; oversees photonic
parts procurement to ensure compliance with engineering
requirements and maintains part inventories. Role is highly
integrated with mission engineering teams in using provided
requirements from mission engineering teams to: Conduct market
survey/product analysis for vendors and possible components/parts
which have applicability, identify candidate components and parts
likely to meet requirements. Work closely with mission engineering
teams to select components and/or parts which support mission.
Familiarity with space flight hardware requirements for extreme
environmental conditions, component vendor roadmaps and vendor
evaluation, component integration and testing and "off the shelf"
component supplier industry for space mission is beneficial .
A BS/BA degree with 12 to 15 years' experience or MS/MA degree with
10 to 13 years' experience or 10+ years' experience with a PhD.
- Ability to evaluate, select and approve optical and photonic
components and photonic ICs (PICs) from design, construction,
quality and reliability perspectives for use in space
- Advise project management on highly complex electronic part
selections that maximize reliability while considering schedule and
- Develop part engineering specifications and drawings.
- Interface with Mission Assurance Managers, Cognizant Engineers,
and part manufacturers.
- Work with manufacturers on new component development and lead
resolution of technical issues in order to support project flight
- Support technical surveys and audits of photonic part
- Perform statistical data analysis and risk assessments.
- Disposition test and inspection failures, including those
during screening, destructive physical analysis (DPA), lot
qualification and receiving inspection.
- Develop screening methods that effectively reduce risk in space
and during manufacturing of magnetics components.
- Understand potential failure mechanisms affecting photonic
components and participate in failure investigations and
- Utilize the Part Acquisition and Review System (PARS) to review
project parts lists and assess part compliance to project
- Serve as an essential team member within the Group, ensuring
part reviews, screening, and testing, and procurement meet project
- Extensive understanding and experience required in the
selection, procurement, manufacture, use and testing/screening of
high reliability optical and photonic components for space-flight
- Strong working knowledge of photonic part properties, including
photon generation, detection and manipulation through emission,
transmission, modulation, signal processing, switching,
amplification, and sensing elements.
- Ability to multi-task with an established track record of
meeting schedule milestones.
- Work well with cross-functional teams with design engineers,
line management and project management.
- Deep understanding and substantial use of common computer
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred
- Relevant experience in photonic technology including
manufacturing or design.
- Knowledge of NASA parts requirements including
- Contract Technical Management experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills. Colorado Salary Minimum:
$102,315.20 Colorado Salary Maximum:$218,712.00 The estimate
displayed represents the typical salary range for this position,
