We're seeking a seasoned Perception Engineer to join our Perception and SLAM group, a dynamic team driven by innovation, collaboration, and the pursuit of excellence. The ideal candidate would have a track record of developing, testing, and deploying a comprehensive perception stack that reliably supports the operational requirements of robotic systems. You'll be instrumental in developing state-of-the-art sensing capabilities for our autonomous swarm robotic system. You'll shape the perception system, ensuring the seamless interaction of sensor inputs, data fusion, and SLAM algorithms. Your contributions will directly impact the robustness and effectiveness of our robotic operations, from the depths of terrestrial mines to the surface of the Moon and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical skills with creativity, taking on challenges few have faced, and helping make the impossible, possible.In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Develop and refine state-of-the-art perception algorithms that accurately interpret multi-modal sensor data, compute odometry estimations, and synchronize sensor inputs. This includes ensuring the algorithms' robust performance across diverse and challenging operational environments.
• Develop and refine sensor calibration routines for various sensing systems including cameras, LIDARs, IMUs.
• Collaborate with the broader team to integrate perception algorithms into the robotic system, ensuring seamless interaction with other subsystems such as control, navigation and planning.
• Participate in field testing, analyze system performance data, and iterate on perception system designs based on test results and system requirements.To hit the ground running, you need:
  • MSc or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science or equivalent with at least 3 years of industry experience in perception system development for robotics.
  • Proven expertise in perception algorithm development, including but not limited to sensor fusion, calibration, and SLAM.
  • A deep understanding of state estimation techniques, such as Kalman filters, particle filters is essential.
  • Strong experience with various robotics sensor systems, including cameras, LIDARs, IMUs, GPS and their limitations in challenging environments.
  • Mastery of computer vision libraries such as OpenCV and PCL. Familiarity with image processing, feature extraction, and 3D point cloud manipulation.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++, and experience with robotics software frameworks such as ROS/ROS2.
  • Experience with machine learning, particularly in relation to perception systems, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software project management practices, including version control with git, agile development methodologies, and unit testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to provide reasoned and detail-oriented technical recommendations.
