Every day, our staff helps audiences catch up on the latest headlines, solve the complexities of life in Southern California, and connect curious communities to one another.Position Summary:The Manager of Major Gifts is responsible for building a robust major gifts program ($10,000 - $250,000+) at SCPR. This position will manage the major gift officers and work with them to create and implement successful strategies and plans to qualify prospects and build relationships with donors that result in increased engagement and contributed support for SCPR. This position has a portfolio of approx. 75 high capacity donors and prospects and is expected to be in direct contact with donors through in-person meetings (NOTE: during the COVID-19 work-from-home period donor interaction is primarily by phone, Zoom and email.) This position reports to the Director of Development and also works with the Senior Vice President of Development to grow the major gifts program and ensure goals are met.Position Responsibilities:Leads the planning and implementation of the major gifts plan that supports organizational goals.* Develops an annual plan and revenue budget to meet objectives and goals.* Monitors revenue results and develops forecasts and projections.* Establishes effective policies and efficient moves management procedures and systems.* Supports the SVP of Development and Director of Development on campaign and special project planning and implementation.Manages the major gifts team to deepen relationships with donors.* Manages a portfolio of high capacity prospects and donors.* Trains and supervises major gifts staff; works with staff to establish individual goals and uses metrics to coach and monitor staff performance.* Supervises staff by providing strategic direction and guidance to build relationships leading to 1) prospect qualification and 2) effective stewardship and solicitation of qualified donors.* Analyzes wealth screened prospect data and assigns prospects to major gift officers.* Leads bi-weekly1:1 meetings with each major gift officer; works with them to develop tailored plans for both prospects in qualification and qualified donors.* Prepares and works with staff to prepare proposals and solicitation materials.* Works with major gifts team to develop longer term plans leading to strong pipeline of donors for annual fund, campaign and planned-giving.* Works with the Director of Development and Senior Major and Planned Giving Officer to ensure that planned giving strategies are integrated across the major gifts team.* Works with Development Operations and Analytics Manager on reports and other materials used to assess progress and performance.Oversee major donor communications and events.* Works with Director of Development to create communications strategies and plans for major gift donors including annual impact reports.* Manages cultivation and stewardship events including strategy development, planning/execution and follow-up.* Ensures coordination across the department and organization.Other duties:* Works with the Director of Institutional Giving and Director of Membership and Leadership Circle on specific projects.* Provides regular reports on fundraising progress and results.* Represents SCPR externally at community and professional events.* Other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:* Bachelors degree required.* Minimum 7 years experience in fundraising with focus on major individual giving; success in using moves management, prospect qualification and building strong relationships resulting in increased support or equivalent.* Minimum of 3+ years experience in staff management; experience must demonstrate an ability to foster high standards and coach, inspire and lead.* Experience working directly with high capacity donors and volunteers, and meeting revenue goals.* Demonstrated ability to work on teams and across an organization.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:* Committed to and enthusiastic about the mission, programs and services of SCPR. Experience working in an industry and/or company in transition is a plus.* Experience in developing strategies and plans to successfully solicit major gifts of $10,000 - $250,000 or more, including multi-year commitments.* Strong understanding of major gifts principles and protocols including moves management; knowledge of donor databases.* Ability to build donors relationships based on the individual's interests while achieving bottom-line results.* Persuasive and strategic communicator with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.* Must be self-motivated, results oriented and goal focused.* Able to lead multiple projects and meet deadlines.* Ability to participate in donor events, including occasional evenings and weekends and involving occasional travel.Preferred Skills and Experience:* Experience promoting or securing planned gifts.* Knowledge of prospect research, wealth screening and analysis systems and software programs.* Experience with Salesforce is a plus.Reporting to this Position:* Major Gift Officers (2)Physical Demands and Working Conditions:* Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.* Ability to manage some work outside of standard office hours as needed.* Physical Demands:* Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time* Required to move about in the community* Frequent use of hands for data entry/keystrokes and simple grasping* Working Conditions:* Moderate noise level* Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditionsDiversity creates a healthier atmosphere: All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.We are committed to hiring a breadth of diverse professionals and encourage members of diverse groups to apply.
