Job Description:
Western Asset Mortgage Capital Corporation (NYSE: WMC) is a
mortgage REIT that currently invests in residential whole loans and
residential mortgage-backed securities and to a lesser extent
commercial whole loans, commercial mortgage back securities and
GSE's. The Company's investment strategy may change, subject to the
Company's stated investment guidelines, and is based on our manager
Western Asset Management Company's perspective of which mix of
portfolio assets it believes provide the Company with the best
risk-reward opportunities at any given time. The Company is
externally managed and advised by Western Asset Management Company,
an investment advisor registered with the SEC and a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Franklin Templeton (NYSE: BEN). The Chief Financial
Officer of WMC is responsible for directing the organization's
financial activities, including the ongoing development and
maintenance of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied
to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of
control systems designed to preserve assets and report accurate
financial results. What you will do
- Develop, enhance, implement and enforce financial policies and
procedures that will improve the overall operation and
effectiveness of the business.
- Assist in formulating WMC's future direction and supporting
tactical initiatives in collaboration with WMC's Chief Executive
Officer and Chief Investment Officer.
- Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management
team.
- Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive
management team.
- Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business
plans.
- Develop performance measures that support WMC's strategic
direction.
- Oversee the Sarbanes-Oxley's internal controls over financial
reporting.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with SEC reporting and
Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
- Oversee preparation of and review public filings required for a
NYSE listed Mortgage REIT.
- Act as the liaison for WMC's external accountants, internal
auditors and tax consultants.
- Manage relationships with third party portfolio administrator,
outside accounting consultants, internal and external
auditors.
- Interface with WMC's portfolio management team on a daily
basis.
- Provide input to developing sophisticated transaction
structuring on any transactions as needed.
- Participation in the development and implementation of a
transaction risk and approval process.
- Implement accounting policies and technical accounting
standards for the Company.
- Report financial results to the board of directors.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of WMC's risk
profile.
- Monitor all open legal issues involving WMC, and the legal
issues affecting the industry.
- Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
- Ensure that the Company complies with all legal and regulatory
requirements, in consultation with General Counsel.
- Ensure that the Company complies with REIT and 40 act
regulatory requirements
- Report risk issues to the audit committee of the board of
directors.
- Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their
findings and recommendations.
- Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.
- Participate in conference calls with the investment
community.
- Maintain banking relationships.
- Represent the company with investment bankers and investors.
What you bring
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant real estate finance and
financial operations experience.
- Experience with REIT structure and SEC reporting.
- Solid understanding of the Residential Mortgage REIT industry,
including strong familiarity with Mortgage Backed Securities and
mortgage financing.
- Solid grasp of the full spectrum of debt capital markets
including RMBS, residential and commercial whole loans, mezzanine,
B-notes, CDO's, CMBS, derivatives and swaps.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the
ability to disseminate information to investors and market
analysts.
- Experience with developing and executing sophisticated
transaction structures.
- Client/Investor-focused, creative, consultative, solution
oriented.
- Experience in managing financial reporting, treasury function,
budgeting process, cash flow, risk management and tax strategies,
specifically within a mortgage REIT framework.
- Team oriented and effective in a matrix organizational
structure.
- The ability to work independently while keeping internal
constituents apprised on a regular basis.
- Ambitious, highly intelligent and possessing the desire to
grown within the organization.
- Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance
