The individual will lead cultural resources field work efforts in support of projects (large and small) and assist senior staff with successful execution and completion of cultural resource management projects.We are looking for a highly skilled Field Director to provide successful management of field studies. This will include direction of field teams in linear and block surveys, test excavations and data recovery projects. The right Field Director for the job is one who looks for a collaborative partnership with Principal Investigators and Project Managers and is engaged in developing fieldwork strategies to ensure the successful execution of a project and implementing adherence to data management standards (pre-to-post-fieldwork).We are looking for a seasoned Field Director ready to take their career to the next level. You will contribute to research designs, survey strategies, post-processing of field-gathered data and reporting of survey results. The Field Director is a key team member and will be directly engaged in making recommendations as to site eligibility and integrity, sensitivity, and risk of impact.The work may require shovel testing, test unit excavation, soil profile description, artifact analyses, preparation of detailed field notes and archaeological site records. You must be able and willing to work outdoors in remote locations and for extended periods under all weather conditions, often traversing rugged terrain. Must demonstrate awareness for workplace safety; and be willing to work independently when conditions are appropriate or with limited supervision. You will work closely with Stantec's project managers, laboratory resources and environmental staff.Your Key ResponsibilitiesExecution of successful Phase I archaeological surveysPhase II testingData recoveryRecords searches at CHRIS Information Centers, federal, state, and tribal agencies as neededRecommendations as to site eligibility and integrityConstruction monitoringProvide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staffContributing to the preparation of archaeological reportsInteract and interface with clients, agency personnel, Native American tribal membersContribute to proposals (level of effort for fieldwork, post-processing, and analysis)Assist with permitting applications (Organic Act, ARPA, USFS, BoR, BLM FWAs, state, tribal)Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.Applies technical and common-sense methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsRegistered Professional Archaeologist (preferred)Field Director permitted/able (required)Experience leading and conducting all phases of cultural resource field investigationsBuilds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.Demonstrate leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performanceProfessional writing, problem solving, and communication skillsAbility to convey safety information to field staffAbility to use field data collection equipment such as GPS and Environment Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Collector and Survey 1-2-3.Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or archaeological remote sensing experience preferred, but not requiredUnderstanding of the application and interpretation of state and federal laws and regulations.Ability to work independently with little supervisionGood driving record and valid driver's license required.Education and ExperienceMA/MS in archaeology is preferred, BA/BS is required.Minimum of 5 years of experience and preferably 10 years of progressively responsible positions, including crew chief, field director, field PIField work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
