Alexandria Real Estate is a real estate and investment company that specializes in life science and technology properties located in major innovation hubs across the United States. Alexandria's Science and Technology Team supports the company by providing scientific and technical expertise to help guide Alexandria's 3 major activities: Real Estate, Venture Investment, and Thought Leadership. Real Estate activities include diligence on and monitoring of existing and potential life science and tech tenants through review of financial statements, scientific milestones, industry news, and press releases, as well as meetings with management. Alexandria's Venture Investment arm identifies and invests in innovative companies in biotechnology and tech, and associated responsibilities span due diligence and in-depth reviews of potential investments, their therapeutic areas and respective competitive landscapes, and the strength and level of innovation of their technology platforms. Lastly, Thought Leadership activities include preparing for and organizing the Alexandria Summit, an annual series of high impact events that bring together leading experts and opinion leaders in fields such as oncology, healthcare, and neuroscience to discuss current progress and challenges in their respective fields. We are seeking a Senior Associate ? Science & Technology for our Pasadena office. The position will support Alexandria's Science & Technology team by providing additional research capabilities and expertise in the life science and technology industries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Attend industry related events and workshops to promote Alexandria. * Maintain a strong presence and network throughout the Los Angeles life science/biotech community. * Develop strategic relationships with the academic, commercial, and venture communities in Los Angeles. * Research, monitor and analyze existing life science entities' performance and financial conditions primarily focused on the West Coast. * Lead local business development activities and work closely with other members of West Coast team on local venture investment. * Analyze the viability of life science entities with respect to financials, technology platforms, drug discovery pipelines and other related scientific concepts. * Provide support for executive/senior management and assist with special projects that require data compilation; analyze and interpret information in oral and written presentations. * Conduct in-depth research (qualitative and quantitative) relevant to various disease and therapeutic areas, US healthcare and regulatory activity, and broader trends in the life science and technology industries. * Research and analyze short and long-term drivers affecting the life science and technology industries. * Research, monitor, and analyze various performance indicators relevant to the types of companies that impact Alexandria's Los Angeles operations, which span life science, agricultural technology, digital health, and tech. Responsibilities include frequent evaluation of company clinical/commercial status, fundraising efforts, and financial conditions, etc. * Create summary briefs and detailed reports on various topics to support Alexandria's Thought Leadership programs and venture capital investments. For example, a report detailing recent product approvals and existing development candidates in immuno-oncology. * Provide support for strategic in-depth research studies that require data compilation, analysis, and interpretation. * Conduct research and prepare company summaries on new and existing tenants and investments, which often may need to be catered to audiences with varying levels of life science or technology expertise. * Collaborate with various functional groups across the Company, including the Communications & Design; Leasing; and Corporate Events teams on special projects. * Prepare correspondence, background information, and/or event materials as needed. * Experience working with large data sets/data analytics using PowerBI or other business intelligence software platforms is a plus. Qualifications and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in a life science related field required; MS or MBA is required, PhD is preferred. * Minimum 4+ years prior work experience (or equivalent educational experience) within the life science or technology industry in a market research, business development, investment or financial analysis capacity is required; startup experience is a plus. * Existing knowledge and relationships with the Los Angeles life science community is preferred. * Understanding of venture capital industry is preferred. * Solid understanding of life science and technology concepts, including but not limited to chemistry and biology fundamentals, the drug development process, the US healthcare and regulatory landscape, and human disease. * Strong research and analytical skills. * Ability to work independently and effectively manage and organize multiple projects concurrently. * Must have excellent written communication skills with ability to create concise and impactful written reports, correspondence, and responses to requests from team members as well as executive level members within the Company. * Communicate with co-workers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner. * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. * Some travel required.
