As a Network Operations Engineer, you will be part of a dedicated team of diverse professionals creating and supporting cutting edge solutions for our client---s critical missions.The Network Operations Engineer is a member of the Network Operations Team, supporting hardware, software and applications comprising the Network Infrastructure. This job requires the fundamental understanding of Switching, Routing, and the OSI model. It includes analyzing, monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing and upgrading of network switches, routers, wireless access points, firewall appliances and other devices. It also includes working with networking tools such as EM7, NCM, Cisco Prime, AKIPS as well as deep understanding of network protocols like SSH, FTP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, Switching/Routing and Wireless. As a Network Operations Engineer, you interact and coordinate with other teams such as the Monitoring team, Help Desk, SAs and Network Engineering team. Network Operations Engineers also support network upgrades and new product rollouts, which involves configuration management compliance. Network Operations Engineers respond to alerts, events, and customer reported issues within stated service level agreements and escalate problems as required to the engineering team, and resolve significant matters exercising independent judgment ensuring that JPL ITSD network security and performance standards are met.ResponsibilitiesEstablish the networking environment by designing system configuration, directing system installation and defining, documenting and enforcing system standardsAnalyze and fix network performance by monitoring and troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and collaborating with network architects on network optimizationTroubleshoot network problems and outages, schedule upgrades and collaborate with network architects and engineers on network optimizationProvide on-site support to remote engineersInstall/remove hardware and move equipment on as needed between data centers and Hub roomsMaintain hardware components and replace as necessary, while creating, configuring and testing both networking and system software.Communicate any major changes to upper management as necessary.Undertake data network fault investigations in LAN/WAN environments by using information from multiple sourcesUpgrading data network equipment to latest stable OS releases in coordination with the networking security and engineering teamsSupport Data Center equipment deployment and configurationsTroubleshoot day-to-day User related issues starting with basic connectivity all the way to network performance and latency issues.Basic configuration of firewalls and Perimeter security actionsFollow procedures and standards as outlined by JPL policyMember of the On Call 24/7 rotationRequirementsTo qualify for this challenging opportunity, candidate should have a High School diploma with 7 years of related experience. Associates degree with 5 years of related experience. Bachelor---s degree with 4 years of related experience. Good written and verbal communication skills and customer care skills.CCNA and/or JNCIA or higher required.
