Positions (1): Middle School Program Coordinator
20 hours per week
Salary: $1,300 monthly; No benefits
Location: Pasadena, CA
Start Date: August 17, 2015 (must complete security clearance prior to start date) Summary of Position:
College Access Plan (CAP) is seeking to fill one part-time Middle School Program Coordinator position for the duration of two school semesters (42 weeks). Under the direct supervision of the Directors of Programs, the Middle School Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating CAP's Washington Middle School (WMS) site program. Program Coordinators are responsible for coordinating the on-site middle school programs including directly teaching students in the classroom, collaborating on the creation of middle school curricula, and coordinating activities with students, parents, and program partners. The Program Coordinator will also be responsible for facilitating and maintaining the after school program for middle school students by teaching college-related lessons and leading activities. The Program Coordinator's primary focus is to prepare underserved high school students for success in college in accordance with the organization's mission. Responsibilities:

  • Directly facilitate in-class instruction at Washington Middle School during the school day and with classroom teacher present;
  • Maintain and manage on-campus after school program space at WMS, including the direct facilitation of the after-school program;
  • Implement in-class activities, one-on-one advisement, after school activities, and student-parent meetings.
  • Coordinate with teachers and counselors to provide in-class presentations about career and college planning;
  • Collaborate with lead program staff to modify and develop curriculum in support of student success;
  • Copy and prepare all program materials;
  • Set appointments with students and send reminders;
  • Monitor student grades/credits to promote completion of middle school course requirements;
  • Monitor program success, including levels of participation, quality of activities, and impact;
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student data and participation in CAP activities;
  • Treat student personal information with sensitivity and maintain FERPA standards of privacy for all student records;
  • Provide records or written reports as required for grant compliance, and maintain proper records for all expenditures;
  • Recognize and celebrate student success. Required Qualifications:
    • Must be available Monday (7:30am - 2:30pm), Tuesday (10am - 4: 30pm) and Thursday (10am - 4:30pm)
    • Bachelor's Degree required (minimum), preferably in the areas of in education, counseling, social work, child development; related fields; or relevant experience.
    • Must be a dynamic, interactive professional with a strong desire to work directly with middle school students in both one-on-one and large classroom settings.
    • Experience working with students aged 11-14
    • Basic knowledge of postsecondary education options, application procedures and admission requirements
    • Strong ability to communicate with students, parents, volunteers, and school staff and faculty verbally and in writing
    • Must be familiar with Mac OS and possess experience with basic office software and common social media platforms
    • Well-developed organizational skills with a solid orientation to detail
    • Creative and critical thinker with a desire to learn
    • Must have own transportation
    • Must complete Pasadena Unified School District background check, including Department of Justice clearance and TB test Additional Desired Qualifications:
      • Fluent in Spanish
      • Classroom teaching experience
      • Experience with database and/or design software (Salesforce, Photoshop, etc.)
      • Experience working with disadvantaged populations Training Provided:
        On-the-job training will be provided. CAP was founded in 2006 by two educators, Mo Hyman and Kathleen Parent, who wanted to address a gap in college knowledge and matriculation among low-income and first-generation college-going students in Pasadena's public schools.
        ABOUT US Founded in 2006, College Access Plan (CAP) is an independent 501c3 nonprofit that prepares underserved students to succeed in college. Through partnerships with PUSD and other local agencies, CAP provides no-cost college readiness advisement and topic-specific workshops on site at high schools and middle schools, and to PUSD graduates that attend college. CAP serves 1,600 students and their families with college applications, financial aid, SAT preparation, and other forms of essential college preparatory and success support.--
