The City of Pasadena is currently seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and team-orientated Part-Time Library Assistant (20 hrs/week) who will provide excellent customer service and promote a positive library experience to all users and visitors in our City's libraries. The current vacancy is in our Public Services Division of our Libraries and Information Services Department, which provides first-class customer service to Library patrons and assists with various inquiries regarding our circulation policies. IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service background with experience working in libraries, preferably in a public library setting. This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills, boundless energy, as well as a strong work ethic. Essential Functions The major responsibilities of this position are listed below. For more detailed information, please review the job description. * Performs circulation-related tasks including check-in and check-out of materials. * Assists patrons in locating information or materials. * Assists patrons using a wide variety of library resources, automated indices, photocopiers, printers, PC's, and other technology. * Assists with library programming for all ages. * Handles customer financial transactions using the City's Tyler Munis cashiering system. * Promotes and imparts information about library programs, services, and policies. * Operates a variety of equipment, including PC's, uses Word, Excel, the Internet, and the Integrated Library System, files, checks, maintains and retrieves information and records. * Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and interacts effectively with staff at all levels of the organization. * Provides support to professional and management personnel and performs other job-related work as required. * Exercises independent judgment and procedural knowledge in performing work within standard operating parameters/guidelines. * Participates in the implementation of department policies and procedures. * May prepare exhibits, crafts and training materials under the guidance of senior staff. * May work on projects with senior staff; establishes and maintains files, both paper and electronic. May prepare documents and compose correspondence from general instruction. Probationary test period is one year. VACANCY INFORMATION There is currently one part-time vacancy in the Public Services Division in the Libraries and Information Services Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Special Requirements Some assignments may require a valid California Class C driver's license and ability to comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
