Job Summary Caltech's Astronomy Department is seekins a reseacher to work on the Zwicky Transient Facility project. The project is currently undertaking a census of the local universe, which requires a large amount of observing with the Palomar 200-in Hale Telesope and keeping track of the sample of targets and data on a daily basis. The researcher will: Filter the Zwicky Transient Facility alert stream for candidates spatially coincident with nearby galaxies. Vet these candidates daily. Spectroscopically classify these candidates with various telescopes depending on the brightness including P60/SEDM, P200/DBSP and Keck I/LRIS. Identify the type of supernova and update the Fritz Marshal. Announce classifications via the Transient Name Server in a timely manner. Job Duties Programming in Python. Reducing and analyzing data. Observing remotely with Palomar 200-in telescope. Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree in Physics or Astronomy or Computer Science. Required Documents Resume
