HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc., a growing, California-based
environmental consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Architectural
Historian to join its Cultural Resources team. HELIX offers
cultural resources, environmental, biological, acoustical, air
quality, and GIS services to both the public and private sectors.
Our cultural resources staff completes a variety of historic
preservation, studies for a wide range of local, state, and federal
projects.

We can be VERY flexible! While we are searching for a full-time
candidate, we are also open to the possibility of a part-time
candidate. You can choose to work out of one of our six office
locations in California, or you can work fully remote or a mix of
both! Just tell us what works for you!

The successful candidate will lead built environment studies for a
wide range of project types throughout California, reporting office
to be determined based on work location. Responsibilities will
include proposal preparation, research, field reconnaissance,
historic-era building/site/object evaluations, impact analyses,
Historic Assessment/HABS/HAER/HALS report preparation, and
communication with other cultural resources and environmental
planning staff, subconsultants, clients, and agency staff. The
ideal candidate will have knowledge and training in historical
resources of California, with at least eight years of related
experience. Knowledge of the California historical, environmental,
and regulatory setting is required.

Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication
skills and analytical abilities. The applicant must have a strong
work ethic, positive attitude, and work well with others. The role
does not require supervision of other staff.

Salary will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a
robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $93,000 to
$124,000 (pro-rated for part-time).HELIX is an equal opportunity

PM21Minimum Requirements for Senior Architectural Historian:
Graduate degree in historic or architectural preservation, art
history, American architectural history, preservation planning, or
a closely related field
A minimum of eight years of professional experience in applying the
methods and practices of historic preservation in the
identification, evaluation, and treatment of historic resources
Strong research, writing, organizational, and verbal communication
skills
Knowledge and experience with historic preservation and cultural
resources management in California; and
Knowledge of the federal and California laws and regulations
pertaining to cultural resource protection and management, and the
ability to evaluate compliance with relevant federal and state
regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to resources
eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places
and California Register of Historical Resources.
Experience with development/implementation of research designs,
preservation plans, and mitigation measures (e.g., HABS/HAER
documentation)
Additional skills considered a plus for Senior Architectural
Historian:
Historic archaeology experience and capabilities
Experience with development/implementation of construction
monitoring plans and programs
Experience in the marketing of historic resource services
