Guidance and Control Systems Engineer page is loaded Guidance and Control Systems Engineer Apply locations Pasadena, California time type Full time posted on Posted 30+ Days Ago job requisition id R2063025 Title:Guidance and Control Systems EngineerKBR is seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineering leader to serve as the Guidance and Control Systems Engineer for the Autonomous Systems Division at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA. This position is required to be onsite.***Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident***The Guidance and Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for architecting, designing and analyzing advanced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) systems. You will work with teams that develop and operate these systems, as well as coordinate the efforts to validate and document the performance of these systems prior to delivering them to the customers.Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Conceive, design, analyze, simulate, oversee, and assess complex performance at the G&C subsystem level
  • Ensure the delivery of complex hardware and/or software to G&C subsystem integration and test
  • Develop highly complex and critical G&C subsystem budget and staffing plans to accomplish the objectives of a project
  • Develop and implement detailed test and verification plans from the subsystem
  • Coordinate the work of specialist engineers to develop integrated concepts
  • Interface between GNC Subsystem and flight system, such as requirements, mass/power/performance budgets, mechanical/electrical/software interfacesRequired Education, Experience, & Skills:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
    • 9 + years of related professional experience
      • Or Master's degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience
      • Or PhD with a minimum of 5 years of experience
      • Extensive knowledge in the areas of modern guidance, estimation and control with application to aerospace systems
      • Capability to perform research and development of advanced GNC systems for deep space exploration applications
      • Extensive knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in G&C control analysis
      • A proven team player and effective leader with excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal and presentation skillsPreferred Experience & Skills:GNC System Architectures Terrain relative navigation GNC Closed Loop in Hardware TestbedsEntry Decent and Landing GNC -Pointing Error BudgetsVerification and Validation of GNC Systems GNC relevant on-board and ground calibrations Rotorcraft Dynamics and ControlsHardware Testing of GNC Sensors (eg. IMU, SRU, LIDAR, Vision) -Onboard AutonomyGNC Fault Protection - design implementation and testing Small Satellites Altitude Control SystemsKnowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in precision optical sensor pointing, spacecraft instrument disturbance rejection, instrument pointing systems, guidance navigation and control systems for entry, descent and landingExtensive understanding of principles, theories, concepts and techniques in high precision pointing systemsExperience designing, analyzing, implementing, calibrating, verifying, and simulating complex and advanced GN&C on-orbit systemsExperience in the design of autonomous systems and spacecraft autonomyDemonstrated experience managing cost and schedule Basic Compensation: $117,000 - $175,400 The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
