About the Position :
Welcome to the Undeclared and Academic Advising Center (UAAC). We support all undergraduate students at Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), aiming to empower students to seek support and take the lead in their academic journey. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Academic Advising community as a College Advisor (Student Services Professional II). This role involves supporting a team of academic advisors and managing the daily functions of the college-based advising program, focusing on delivering equitable, high-quality advising for new and continuing students. Our mission is to work collaboratively with students, sharing responsibility, and investing equally in their educational and holistic development, considering diverse assets, needs, and backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, an energetic mindset, and a strong commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Academic Advising, the College Advisor will provide comprehensive, relational, and holistic academic advising to undergraduate students. As part of the academic advising team, the Advisor will support students throughout their academic journeys, from matriculation to graduation, fostering a positive university experience and supporting student success.
The College Advisor will develop a strong understanding of student development, support, and success strategies to communicate effectively with students in a rapidly changing environment. They will leverage comprehensive advising strategies to assist students with diverse experiences, participate in implementing academic advising programs, and advocate for student needs to promote enrollment, engagement, and degree completion. The Advisor will engage in professional development, establish relationships with academic departments and university offices, and create seamless advising experiences. They will also develop campaigns to increase retention, reduce equity gaps, and facilitate degree progress. Using interviewing and counseling techniques, the Advisor will assist students facing academic or personal challenges, maintain student tracking databases, utilize campus advising tools, and report on outcomes.     Essential Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration, or a related field, plus two years of professional experience in student services or a related area. A Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience. Additional relevant experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. Candidates should have knowledge of organizational management, research, interview techniques, and the ability to interpret program rules, advise students, and communicate effectively with diverse populations. Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required. A background check will be conducted as part of the employment process.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Knowledge of university policies, data analysis, and proficiency with office software and student engagement platforms (e.g., Navigate, Ellucian Degree Audit). Ability to analyze complex situations and implement effective solutions.
